About the PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) – also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) – is a standardized exam that typically precedes the beginning of the college admissions process. It is most often taken by students in 11th (and sometimes 10th) grade in October. Learn more about the exam on the Official College Board PSAT/NMSQT Page.

PSAT/NMSQT Exam Format & Scoring

The PSAT/NMSQT exam is structured similarly to the SAT Exam in that is divided into Reading, Writing/Language, and Mathematics sections. Scores are usually available by December following the October exam date.
